About Voxel
3D Modeler turned Cable Artist
Find out more about me:
Hiya, I’m Voxel - your friendly neighborhood cable artist!
In addition to offering the best built cables on the market, I strive to offer my clients the most personal experience possible, by working one on one to discuss your options, offer suggestions, crafting color swatch samples, and generally being a force for positivity and learning. I want my clients to be as informed as possible, and will happily explain differences in materials, layouts, and more! If you reach out to me, I guarantee that I’ll personally help with whatever your situation is!
In 2017, I started my PC Modding, watercooling, and cable-making journey. Even then, I intended to start VoxelMods as a business, but chronic health issues prevented that. I continued to work as a 3D modeler/project manager. However, in May of 2020, I was laid off due to COVID-19, but that turned out to be an amazing opportunity. Feeling burnt out in the visual effects field, I had the good fortune to have the security and time I needed to explore new horizons. I discovered USB cable making and cable coiling by chance through CruzCtrl’s youtube channel, and the scattered pieces of my years-long modding goal fell promptly into place with a new focus - ultra-custom USB Cables. I then spent several months working continuously to improve my cables, going through much trial and error. I pursued cables the same way I would handle a production project - troubleshooting problems, assessing quality with a sharp, critical eye, and working methodically with ever-improving efficiency. I sold my first cables on July 21st, 2020 - and thus, VoxelMods was reborn!
As of 7/21/2021, VoxelMods reached one year as a full time business. In that time, I crafted over 400 unique USB cables that are now adorning the desks of my valued clients. I am a small fish in the grand scheme, but I’m proud to have left my mark on the world through my cables.
As of 4/21/2022, I have now crafted well over 800 unique cables for incredible clients, and I have expanded into realms that no one ever imagined! Such as Patina’d connectors, crazy multi-tones, double-detachable cables, 90d connectors, and my latest addition - hand-dyed custom colors!
As of 1/1/2023, I have crafted over 1200 unique cables for clients in dozens of countries! I have introduced custom cerakote, LED CNC Hardware, and the worlds first 12-segment coil!
I’ve also expanded into IEM style cables, XLR Mic, 1/4in Guitar, and RCA Tattoo machine Cables to offer cables to fellow artists and makers!
I’m a teacher at heart, and will always do my best to respond to requests for help from community members.
Background
During 2015-2020, I was working as a full-time 3D modeler for a renowned home furnishings company based in SF. I’ve modeled thousands of models over the years there, and developed many skills that directly contribute to my cable making abilities, such as workflow development, accuracy, precision, and an ability to self-assess quality. Sadly, I cannot show images of my professional work here.
Passions
For years I’ve loved PC hardware, and when I was at a point in life were I could afford such luxuries, I dove into watercooling and PSU cable sleeving with gusto. My long-term project Voxel’s Box was rebuilt many times, modding the case and loop further each time. I went mad with it - modding the Lian Li PC-O9 with acrylic and aluminum mods, automotive paint, and even crazier watercooling loops. I love the art and craftsmanship involved in case modding, with my role models being Alex Banks, Singularity Computers, and Hans Peder Sahl.
Motivations
I’ve been an artist for the past decade, but I’ve always been driven more by problem solving than artistic expression. Some call me a perfectionist, but that trait motivates me to push past my limits to create cables that meet my own high standards. I strive to improve with every step I take. I find joy in making each cable better than the last, and am always working to become more efficient.
